It’s January 2017 and nearly 70 Champions TFW Members are “Shredding”. If you are

following us, you know the “10 Day Warrior Shred” is a plan to Shred bad dietary habits, and establish eating habits that will actually make us healthy now and in the future. They are eating delicious whole food-plant based meals and yes, Shredders will get leaner, and nobody is counting calories either! Pull out your Warrior 20 list of TFW Focus Foods and you will notice that we are basically eating right off of it, just tightening up around the edges!

As always, we sometimes need to step back and look at the bigger picture when it comes to our lifestyles and in this case specifically what we Americans (See previous S.A.D. blog!) eat. We have proven to you that Americans eat themselves to literally trillions of dollars in health care costs each year. So what are we doing wrong?

Well, let’s get in the Way Back Machine…Millions of years! Millions of years ago, early humans had virtually identical digestive tracks to today’s great apes. Other than occasionally scavenging meat, early humans ate exclusively plants. So over millions of years, we were naturally evolving as herbivores. Fast forward through time and land about ten thousand years ago. That is around that time that humans started to farm, and more meat became available on a regular basis. The problem with this meat availability is that we now had herbivores eating like omnivores. Dr. T Colin Campbell, professor emeritus at Cornell University and author of The China Study, explains this eloquently:

“The birth of agriculture only started about 10,000 years ago at a time when it became considerably more convenient to herd animals. This is not nearly as long as the time [that] fashioned our basic biochemical functionality (at least tens of millions of years) and which functionality depends on the nutrient composition of plant-based foods.”

Fast forward again to today. Because so many animal products (Not just beef, pork and chicken, but all dairy products) are available and marketed as essential to us (Coming next: The Protein Myth!), Americans have come to view themselves as Omnivores. It is easy to understand this! We CAN eat animals, we just were NOT DESIGNED to. We know we have completely different digestive systems from Lions and Tigers, but we try to eat like them! Cool fact…Humans have digestive tracts 9 feet long, a 500lb Tiger’s is about three…Hmmm!

But don’t panic! You don’t have to go 100% plant based to be healthy and you sure don’t have to do it all at once. Research shows that eating 80-90% plant based has huge benefits. Do it one meal at a time. A target of an 80% whole food-plant based diet (like the one Tom Brady eats by the way!) is not that difficult. We will show you the way, and give you all the recipes you need. As I love to say…”Just move in that direction.”
